Planning a destination wedding is exciting… but also, let’s be real, a little overwhelming. Between choosing the right resort, wrangling guest travel, and decoding wedding package fine print, it’s a lot. That’s why most couples start Googling: “Should I hire a destination wedding travel agent?”

The answer is usually yes (maybe actually always yes) but not all travel agents are the same. Asking the right questions before hiring a destination travel agent up front will save you time, stress, and (big one) money. So, let’s dive into the must-ask questions… and I’ll give you my own answers along the way so you know how I work with my couples.
1. Do you specialize in destination weddings?
What to look for: You don’t want someone who mainly books cruises or family vacations dabbling in weddings on the side. Destination weddings have unique timelines, group contracts, and guest logistics.
My answer: Yep! I am an ex wedding photographer/videographer turned Destination wedding travel planner. I know the packages, the perks, and the things you wouldn't even know to consider. And my couples get all that insider knowledge.
2. What resorts and destinations do you work with?
What to look for: Some agents only push one brand. And while we do have our favorites (I mean who doesn't!?) You want someone who listens to your vibe (boho chic, glam, party-all-weekend) and matches you to the right resort to reflect what you want out of your wedding.
My answer: I work across the Caribbean and Mexico, and I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all. UNICO couples are different from Hard Rock couples, and Sandals brides are different again. I'll have you walking down the aisle saying "this is exactly the vibe I was dreaming of"
3. How do you help with guest bookings?
What to look for: Guests are often the hardest part (sorry, Aunt Linda). You need someone who will manage RSVPs, rooms, and endless “do I need a passport?” texts.
My answer: I take care of all guest travel, payments, and questions so you don’t have to be the family travel secretary. Guests get direct communication and I make sure everyone is booked correctly and on time.

Do you charge fees?
What to look for: Some agents do, some don’t. Be clear up front.
My answer: My services are complimentary to my wedding couples. Resorts pay me, not you. That means you get my expertise, organization, and insider tips at no extra cost. I do however have cancelation fees to protect my time commitment in the event that things don't go as planned.
5. How do you handle problems if they come up?
What to look for: Travel is unpredictable. You want someone who doesn’t just send you a confirmation number, but actually advocates for you.
My answer: I don’t disappear after you book. If there’s a flight hiccup, a resort mix-up, a storm coming, or a guest meltdown, I’m the one on the phone fixing it while you sip a margarita and stay focused on your day.
6. Do you offer planning tips beyond travel?
What to look for: The best agents don’t just book... they guide you through the wedding process with advice and insider tips.
My answer: 100%. I share things like the best time of year to book, how to score perks, and what’s actually worth upgrading. I have YEARS of wedding knowledge stored In this brain of mine. I've even coordinated many weddings that I was only contracted to shoot! My job is to make sure your wedding goes off without a hitch. (Well, I guess we do want to get YOU hitched.)
In the end...
Your wedding deserves to feel magical, not like a second job. The right destination wedding travel agent will take care of the logistical things, make you feel supported, and try to make your big day as stress free as possible. Ask the right questions... and if my answers resonate, I’d love to help you plan your perfect day!
